Weird! Home Depots the nation over must have been filled with t5 intake modders searching desperately for the right pvc pipe. Here in Texas, all I could find was the thick walled stuff. I did look at and seriously consider the dryer vent pipe I've read of bimmer owners using. Too bumpy in my opinion. Also couldn't find electrical conduit in anything near the right size.

I like Steve B's vent pipe, (especially the workmanship) but worry that too big an aperture will drain the car of low speed torque. (There's a fancy word for it, but its like when you try to drink out of a straw that's too fat: suction harder to create and control). Also, I'm definitely not skilled enough in the workshop to get the transition as nice as his.

While I was at home depot, I picked up a long funnel and did the (reversible)version 1.0 mod that Dean suggested eons ago. There's noticeable improvement over stock, and I'm led to believe that that a proper 3" x 9" trumpetmouthed pipe will really work well. Still: Where the heck can I get the right pipe? Anyone in Texas with a good source?

Also, will someone with experience put down a list of tools and supplies that are needed/helpful in getting the mod done right? I have only bits and pieces of toolsets, and would like to know what to pick up next time I'm by the Depot. PS Please include even the obvious ones, as I'm, well... coz it probably won't be as obvious to me.
