JT,
I washed both my cars today, but I have had them hand washed periodically during the Winter either at the dealer (for my partner's '96) or where I park (they offer washing/detailing service).
I just used water straight from the hose, changed the water/wash solution bucket several times and dried them with a chamois. Even having been washed every now and then, I found I needed to clean the lower body, especially around the wheel wells, at least two times. If you can do so, try to hose off the underside of the car with a jet spray to help get some of the salt out.
Mine both need to be cleaned, polished and waxed, but it is going to rain tomorrow, so I am going to wait for the next nice weekend. Hope we get another one soon.
I can't use a car wash because I have convertibles, but I never used them much on my hardtops except during the Winter months when it was too cold to wash them myself. But then again, if you go to a good wash, they can clean the underside very well.
