A couple of points. Coming off of lease as the owner, SAAB is going to reduce your residual by some if asked but not much. Wait as long as possible, even into the next month after lease is up. It is like like palying poker. In my case, SAAB wanted almost 21K (99 9-3 conv HOT). USAA was willing to finance total; but due to problems with CHASE, the whole deal took almost a mnoth to finalize. By the time it was done and we called CHASE, they lowered the price to 17000. I lucked out; but what the heck...their loss my gain....paid for my engine and exhaust upgrades and new mountain bike to boot.
As for longevity, I have 70k on mine in 44 months, of which the car was in storage for 9 months of that. I have not had many problems and do not think I will. I had a 94 V6 SE (the ones everyone hated), and rolled 106k in 5 years without a major problem.
Most things that seem to break are the accessories.....power seat motor may short, knobs break off, etc. the only exception is the exhaust system which on both my cars, become perforated around 60k. More environment than anything else though.
Finally, as for warranty, anyone you finance through (esp Credit Unions) have separate bumper to bumper warranties they will sell you for up to 50k miles. TAKE IT. They are better deals than SAAB will offer and most importantly, they are covered at any dealer, not just SAAB. So when you are in the middle of nowhere and have something simple (non-SAAB) break, you can get it fixed easily. My coverage, for example, cost me $1200 and covers the car through 110k. With a convertible that is important.
Hope this helps.
