Mentioned to my wife my intent to autocross the Viggen this summer and she looked disappointed/concerned. She admitted now being "disenchanted" with this car that we were both excited about acquiring last Fall. Here's the Mars/Venus thing once again. I love the car. She says she now looks at it as being too expensive to thrash around the cones. Says it's begun to seem like a prima dona to her. (WHAT!?) I said, "hey it's just a car, if it were some fragile treasure I wouldn't want to race it." Unfortunately (& as usual) after some consideration I understand her point. We had 9 wonderful years with a 1986 900S long ago; gained much respect for Saab's practicality and solid workmanship. Good, sound, quality transportation. My wife appreciates quality, good design, efficiency, but has no use for bells & whistles and hates "image". I recall the '86 being a great work horse. Didn't worry about the dog jumping in, or throwing a bunch of brush in the cargo area. Now we never take the Viggen if the dog is going along-- don't want to scrath the leather! Now we have to carefully enter/exit the driveway at the correct angle--don't want to scrub the front air dam! Now, gotta be real careful to dodge anything the looks like a pothole--watch those rims! And park a foot away from that curb--same reason! And everything is power operated (bells/whistles). She respected that--(C900)--Saab was able to provide a sunroof and multi-adjustable bucket seat WITH NOW MOTORS! Great designs. I still love the Viggen, but she has a point. I'm having trouble just driving/using it without treating like it's fragile. (thanks for letting me "share"-- no group hugs, please...)
