on cost. Any group III oil, such as Castrol Syntec, Valvoline SynPower, QS Synthetic... All these are NOT synthetic, but have properties that make them close to real synthetics in performance.
If concerned about cost (which is silly, considering the cost of an engine,) I would look at something with group II base. Chevron, Havoline, Motorcraft -- these are cheap Wal-Mart oils that have excellent properties and are all group II base. Mobil DriveClean is mostly Group I with a very robust additive package. If I had to choose between "cheap" Wal-Mart oils, I would pick Motorcraft, as it is slightly more robust than the rest. It is made by Conoco.
