for the door speakers, rather than using those cheap plastic spacer rings
that come from the factory or aftermarket kits. Now I have a two-layer (1 inch total thickness) laminate of Dupont Corian bolted to the inner door metal. The only sound proofing I did was 2 inches of foam directly behind the speaker (about 6" high by 12" wide) wrapped in a gallon zip-loc bag and fastened to the door with dots of construction adhesive. This prevents the foam from absorbing moisture and lets water drain behind it.
Don't know if this helps you guys but while the panels were off I was sound testing and got a vibration from a slit in the foam where the wires pass thru to the hatch release button on the drivers door. Once everything was back in place there noises at all other than the musical notes from the woofers.
BTW, you don't destroy anything if you pull the panels off - if you're careful. A little foam or silicone here and there should cure your ills.
