I'll add one more posting to the slew of 9-3SS reports.
I received that slightly odd 'free Salomon shoe' offer from Saab, so I went to the local Saab dealer (Herb Chambers in Boston) and took a 9-3SS Linear 5-spd for a spin. The salesman was quite pleasant.
Likes: nimble feel, plenty of power, comfy seats, no torque steer, fun to drive. There was a huge downpour for part of the test drive, and the ESP kicked in once or twice to keep me going the right way. The dash was nicely subdued - nothing like the form before function crap showing up in cars like the Toyota Matrix. The information display's new spot by the windshield is great. Good highway mileage too. The clutch and gear shift were terrific, but then I'm used to a 1990 Camry's tranny.
Dislikes: Small trunk... Seriously, this is the only thing that would hold me back. If the wagon version was out, I'd buy. As it is, I think I'm going to get into a 2001/2002 9-3SE in the next year or so, to better hold the baby stuff my wife and I will be needing in October. I didn't find the interior materials to be cheap feeling like many have said, but I suspect my cheap-o-meter is calibrated to old Toyotas and not newer cars.
