You're just about right...
Matching revs as you engage the clutch saves your clutch, & it keeps your passengers happy 'cause its smoother.
Double-clutching saves some wear on your synchros, but its mostly unnecessary. It sounds cool when you do it right. If you do it wrong it's a great source of amusement for people who hear you screw it up.
The synchro is really a little clutch for each gear. It's job is to get the input shaft spinning at matching speed so you can engage the gear. If you quickly force the lever into gear, that's hard on the synchros. If you put some pressure on the lever & wait for the synchro to do its work you're OK.
