It probably won't make any difference with that kind of mileage. (So, you're planning on changing it once a year?)
We put about 10k mi/yr on our '99 9-3SE (also w/auto), & for our 10k mi changes I'm using M1 0W-40. My feeling is, it's a better all-around weight for a turbo engine. I'm also using the OE filters right now, but I'll be changing to the larger ACDelco PF13 or Pure One PL14670 once I'm OOW (probably early next year). This filter is fatter but not much longer & is used on my '90 C900, so I'm planning on using the same filter for both cars. The other option is to go longer with the ACD PFL400A or Pure1 PL20195, but it doesn't hold as much dirt as the fatter one & I can't get ACD to confirm that the bypass valve relief pressure is the same as the OE filter (I had it confirmed via the Purolator catalogue though ...).
Do you have the maintenance records? If so, look to see if the transmission fluid's been changed yet. If not (or if you don't have the records), plan on changing that ASAP too. Mine was already turning from red to brown at only 35k miles. I did my change with non-synthetic ATF, but I think most folks are saying to go with synthetic. Since you can only drain less than 1/2 the ATF fluid at once, the usual suggestion is to change it 3 times (driving in-between) to get most of the original stuff out. (I'm planning on changing the ATF with Synthetic at each of my next three 10k oil changes.)
