Should be able to do it--that's how I do my Volvo's.
There are a couple of transmission oil cooler lines that lead to the radiator. The shop probably just breaks those connections at the radiator and connects to their Snap-On transmission oil change machine. They run the engine at idle and the oil pump in the transmission pushes out the old fluid, while new fluid is put in at the same rate by the Snap-On.
There is considerable mixing of old and new fluid going on in the transmission while they are doing that, so it's not WAY better than doing the DIY multi-flushes. But it saves the shop time and fluid which is why they do it that way.
If it's a good shop, it's an OK way to do it. Just check the color of the oil on the dipstick (wipe it on a rag) before and after to make sure they did it (as opposed to just charging you for it.....)
