The sound stage is balanced to be from the front, the way it is suposed to be. The problem with the Linear is the frequency response of the speakers tails off beyond 14,000.
My solution was to install the speakers I took out of my '00 9-3 before I turned it back in at lease-end. I replaced the 2 paper cone front 9-3 SS speakers with the 2-way Infinity kappas (gren cone). And I put the 6x9 2 way Infinity Kappas into the cutouts at the back and simply moved the connecctor over from the existing paper cone deck speakers. Saab kept the same connectors going from NG900 to 9-3 to 9-3SS, so it was a snap.
Measured with a frequency analyser and a sound test CD, I have 60 Hz-19 kHz, +- 2 dB. You'd beed a subwoofer to do much better at the bottom end.
Those 4 speakers cost be almost Canadian $500 8 years ago, so Saab's upgrade price isn't out of line as you get subs and more wattage. I'm very happy with just the changes I made. The sound is clear and well imaged. Will probably replace the other paper cones in time.
