That just means that your brakes aren't gone. I imagine your service guy actually looked at them to make sure they weren't worn down to nothing. The "warning system" for worn-out brakes is just a metal tab that screetches against the rotor. I can recognize the difference in sound between the different things, like Dean said; but none of us can hear it over the web...
It's NEVER a bad idea to look & see. Jeff's brakes might just be worn out; if so, he needs to deal with it. (He didn't say how many miles he has...)
