Parking Assist, trailer hitch don't mix!

I brought my '03 Arc (with Touring Package) into the dealer for its 30-day checkup. The one major complaint I had was that the Parking Assist feature simply didn't work. I'd put the car into reverse, back up towards something, and get no tone nor beeps.
Apparently the service guys were driven crazy by this - they compared to other cars on the lot, swapped modules, spent an hour or more on the phone to Saab, etc. Eventually they realized that if they unplugged the connector for the Saab trailer light harness (this is a custom Saab design for the 9-3SS), the Park Assist feature suddenly started working!
Evidently, nobody at Saab ever tested this combination, and it seems that very few SS owners buy the trailer hitch. (I have it because I sometimes tow a light utility trailer.) The service rep said that he thought mine was the only one that dealer had ever sold. The wiring harness has diodes in it to make the trailer lights work properly with the regular car lights.
For now, the workaround is to unplug the trailer harness (easy to do, it's a connector in the left trunk panel) when I'm not using it. Apparently Saab USA will talk to Sweden about a more permanent solution!
