Just got them put on my 99' Viggen today. The stock dunlop SP 2000's had 20,000 miles on em'. First remarks: WOW and WOW. I noticed an immediate different in the ride when i first got on the highway from the dealership. I actually said "oh my god" out loud a few times becuase i was so shocked in the difference. They are much quieter than the Dunlops. Also, they are better at highspeeds. I could not tell i was going as fast as i was (pretty fast...) whereas with the Dunlops, around 70mph you could TELL you were going that fast.
Acceleration is better from a stand still. I dont understand this but it is definatley noticable. Maybe due to better traction. Oh! and speaking of traction when i finally got home and found my favorite windy, hilly roads, i could definatley notice a difference in traction. They hugged the road and did not even make one doubt rise in my mind as to them losing grip. I heard from other Saabers on this board that the sidewalls in the Pirelli's are pretty stiff and i beleive it. There was much less pull when cornering fast on windy roads and the car remained level for the most part. (there are no upgrades, suspension or engine, on this car... only K&N airfilter).
Understeer was less dramatic too. When going into a corner i felt exactly where i was putting the car. And while in the turn, i was able to take the line without constant re-adjustmant whereas with the dunlops, i was constantly re-adjusting my line (balance and alignment probably helped this though). Lastly, the ride is more COMORTABLE! PA is full of potholes and uneven pavement. While i avoid the potholes (obviously) i cant avoid some of the imperfections in the road. With the dunlops: noisy, felt every nooke and cranny in road, and jittered the car and made the interior rattle. With the Pirelli's: Quiete, smooth, and solid. Another plus is that the directional tread looks awsome. I would recomend these to any viggen driver. I couldnt say how they would be for other Saab's but i cant imagine that they would be that different. PS: they are expensive. Tire rack has them at 160 each. I payed more but shipping and mounting/balance was included. Hope this helped some of you who are investigating the never ending tire debacle.
