Did they check to see that all of the pulleys were aligned to themselves?
Is it possible that a bearing on one of the other devices is ceasing when it gets hot (such as the power steering pump, alternator, water pump, belt tensioner, idler pulley, etc.)? If one of these pulleys is moving slower than the others or ceases up it could shred the belt. I hate to think it was the belt tensioner pulley when they said it was the AC compressor.
If your car did the same thing twice, I doubt that it was the AC compressor. Maybe you paid for something that didn't need to be repaired? You might want to press them on this issue since it appears from what you are saying and the details you provided that the problem isn't fixed.
If they damaged your car in an accident did you file a police report? Let your insurance company go after them, don't sweat chasing after them yourself, let your insurance company do the dirty work since that is what they get paid to do.
