I'm not sure about prices but my guess would be somewhere between $22-$25K certified.
As far as the Certified Pre-Owned being worth it, you need to think about how much you drive. If you buy the car with 20K miles on it and it's a 2002, you have another two years and 20K miles of original factory warranty left. Now if you buy that same car Certified you will get another 2years and up to 100K miles worth of warranty coverage. So, with this example, you are buying a car that has another 4 years and 80K miles of warranty.
Here is what you need to consider....will you put 80K miles on this car in four years? That is alot of driving. You may be a traveling salesman and put 30K miles on a car in a year. If that is the case, get it Certified. But, if you don't drive that much your not going to get as much use out of the warranty as you would think.
Consider other warranties that a Saab dealer will sell. When I bought my 2000 SE back in January it had 22K miles on it. I wanted an extended warranty but the Certified Program did not make sense like the above example because we only put about 10-12K miles a year on a car. My factory warranty runs out in Feb. 2004. Buying Certified would get me to Feb. 2006 but, I will most likely only have about 60K miles on the car at that point. So, I bought another extended warranty that gave me less miles but more time. I now have coverage to 84K miles but that runs until Feb. 2007.
I can't remember the name of the warranty but, it was bought at the dealer when I purchased the car and I was assured that any SAAB dealer will recognize and honor it just as they would the Certified program. If I remember correctly is was about $800.
Something to consider. Other than that, congratulations for choosing to buy a hatchback SAAB and good luck finding the right one.
