So the wife and I are heading home from the bowels of Arkansas after attending a wedding this weekend. Go to turn onto 61N off of 49. 61 is a nice smooth 4 lane divided highway heading to Tunica that people cannot navigate for whatever reason. We've come across more fatal wrecks on this flat, smooth and easy going piece of concrete then I care to count.
Notice some headlights absolutely hammering northbound up through traffic. Big gap in both of the northbound lanes momentarily allows for a safe pull-out even with this car coming on strong, so I go ahead and turn out.
Naturally I head to the far right lane since I have a car loaded with the pooches, wife and serious pounds of luggage, not the time/place to play drag racer. Grab gears up through third in the 9-3 to about 90mph and this car behind me is still coming on strong. Yow, must be hauling whatever it is...
Car passes, a Buick. Buick Century. Hmmmm, interesting. This dude is flying through traffic. Slide into the huge traffic gap following the Buick and grab gears again now that I'm rolling vs. dead stop start. Buick, containing three young gents, is doing about 105. Who would have thought? 105 in a Buick? What kind of death wish is that?
Back out of the throttle after satisfying my curiousity about how fast a Buick Century can float along and prepare to set the cruise at a more civilized pace. Wife inquires "What was that about?" to which I reply "Just wanted to see how fast they were going so I can tell the police when they flip that thing."
So not even a breath after my reply and maybe a half mile ahead of us, I watch the Buick slice right then left across the lanes, a puff of dirt dust as it catches air and barrel rolls off into the ditch.
Damnit, need to watch what I say...
We arrive seconds later to find the three gents already out of the vehicle (One tossing a bottle out into the field. Gee, nothing suspicious here folks...). Fortunately nobody was hurt. One dude pissed about it happening, one dude in awe of it happening and the driver (I think) looking pretty meek. The Buick? Now a candidate for a chop top or convertible but quite possibly driveable as such. Try to confirm they are okay and nobody else in the car as the wife calls the not so responsive Sheriff's office (something like 20 minute response time). Left these guys in the company of locals that gathered to await the Sheriff's arrival.
Simply amazing nobody was killed in that car or the traffic they failed to navigate through (somebody "cut them off"). Even more amazing was the dude that was pissed about it happening. Personally I would have kissed terra firma, said a fleet of prayers and set to work ensuring my life took a bit more of a conservative approach having survived that dramatic of a wreck with zero injury.
Okay I'm done, had to share it with somebody.... Simply stunning wreck, worthy of a movie scene. Thankful my SAAB 9-3 was able to hustle us safely out of the way of this on-coming Buick.
