If you already own a shop vac then try it and tell us how it goes...
Personally, I've done the following three methods:
1) Drain via plastic draincock located on radiator below battery. Advantage - it's the recommended way. Disadvantage - If you break the brittle plastic or it develops a leak then you need a whole new radiator.
2) Drain via the lower radiator hose. Advantage - It's easier to reach than the draincock plus you can't "break" it. Disadvantage - It's VERY messy since it's impossible to fit a hose on there to collect the runoff.
3) Siphon out most of the coolant with a Topsider* suction device. Advantage - You get out most of the fluid without spillage. Disadvantage - You still have about 10% left in there which needs to be drained out.
* The Topsider is also very good for doing oil changes on certain cars that are designed for it (like the new 9-3 SS). Mercedes and BMW owner's swear by em!
