This BB is a great resource for service and information!
On May 13, I brought my '99 9-3 base to Patrick Saab/VW in Auburn for some service issues. I didn't buy the car there, although it turns out that Patrick is the dealer through whom the car was originally leased -- so they have the service information in their database. I asked about a creak from the front suspension, citing the retourquing of a specific bolt as mentioned in a TSB I found on a site linked to this one. I was charged a $39.00 diagnostic fee just so that they could figure out that that was, in fact, the problem. I also mentioned a fault in the right rear seatbelt receptor, and how I thought it was covered by the 5 year seatbelt warranty. I was told that it might be, then that it wasn't, then that they had to order the part and they would just charge me another $39.00 diagnostic fee, order the part, and then refund my diagnostic fee if the part was covered. What kind of dealer doesn't know the warranty information on a specific part?? Who were they going to call? Saab USA? That seems really silly. Then, I asked for a print out of the service report (from the car's history at that service center) and they told me the first page was free. After that, they were $5/page. I didn't buy it because I was physically repulsed by the smugness on the guy's face as he said it.
Anyway, they haven't called me about the part coming in. It's been over a month, during which time I haven't been able to use the seat with the broken belt. The strange thing is that my seatbelt warranty will expire (the car's in-service date is 1998) in August. Has anyone had any problems with Patrick Saab? Their customer service sucks, they charge you for every little thing, and I was kept waiting for 5 hours while they checked the suspension, brakes and seatbelt! I wasn't a walk-in, either; I had an 8:30 appointment like everyone and their cousin in the waiting room.
My bottom line question is this: based on your experience with Saab dealers in general and Patrick in particular, do you think they're waiting until the expiration of the warranty on that item so that I will have to pay for the repair? My only other car dealer experience was with a great Ford dealer, where they were incredibly organized and knew everyone's name. Please, no cracks about Fords needing repair more often....
Thanks.
