Even thought the residual on my '99 93 HOT was a bit high at $15,200. I figured that since it has been a great car and only has 23K miles on it, that it was worth that much to me. (Plus I looked at some other 15K used cars - most of them were crap, plus the unknown of buying a used car).

I called my dealership to complete the deal, and the salesman urged me to wait until my last payment was posted, since that's when SAAB would really start to bargain. I was skeptical of this since I had made numerous calls to SAAB to try to get them to lower the residual - they stated that it was insured and wouldn't budge.

Earlier this week I call the salesman back to let him know that my last payment has been made. He returns my call and lets me know that for $15.2 he can give me the car with the SAAB certified warr or $14,000 without! Somehow he was able to get them to come down $1200.

I'm very happy about this (since I was ready to pay $15.2), but I'm a curious how he pulled this off, since this seems to be against most of the other experiences that I've read on this board....
