My understanding is that there is a steel support in both rear head rests. This should take the place of any "gee-whiz" pop-up technology. If you look closely at the car with the top down, you will notice that the rear head rests are higher than the front head rests.
This, coupled with the reinforcement of the windshield/A-pillar, tells me that unless your head sticks out over the rear seats while seated, if the car were to roll over, your head would be lower than both contact points and therefore protected.
All of this assumes that your seat belt is fastened. If not, you'll likely be in the process of being thrown from the car if it rolls over. Who know where your head will be then?
I'm not an engineer, just applying some common sense. Hopefully no one has to test this theory.
Note to Sonnett 43, My '03 convertible does have traction control. I don't know when they started putting it in.
