In addition to the suspension stuff below, I've got another concern. I noticed a few months ago that there was a tinny, rasping noise coming from the engine, audible only from the left side of the car (sound coming from left-front-wheelwell area). I had the car at the dealer at 48k, and I had them do an oil change while it was there, and they told me the center flex pipe was rusted. Last week, I finally replaced it (DIY...easy job). It was indeed rusted, and the replacement has made the car quieter. However, the rasping noise is still there.
The noise is only audible below about 25000 rpm, and its frequency is related to engine rpm. It kind of sounds like what happens if you hold the edge of a piece of paper in front of your mouth and blow along it while shaking the paper, except a bit more metallic. I can hear it when standing outside the car on the left side, or when driving with the windows open when there is some sort of wall to my left to reflect the sound.
Thoughts? I suppose when I see the mechanic, getting him to diagnose it will be the best way of finding out what's going on, since I can easily reproduce it (start the car and stand next to the left front wheelwell).
Thanks,
Matt
