I had my xm rig run that way for awhile, and the sound degradation drove me up the wall, especially on more dynamic music. I now have a new pioneer premiere head unit that A) has aux in, and B) plays xm radio and c) plays mp3 cds. I was worried about the aesthetics of sacrificing the stock system, but am extremely happy with the result - I wish I had some pics to post.

According the Pacific Accessory Corp., I should soon be able to get my stock steering wheel controls to match up with the aftermarket head unit. Joy!

My advice: skip the hardwired fm mod. If you're desperate, get one of the $20-$50 temp portable jobbies to slake your thirst, then go for the head unit upgrade when you get the chance.
