today I took an extra day of vacation and did some more of the 60k service to my '99 9-3 (65k miles). So, I just finished bleeding the brakes, replacing the fuel filter, and replacing the cabin air filter.
I used the Motive Products Power Bleeder to do the brakes. That thing is the greatest idea, and is a snap to use (and it was my first time doing brake bleeds). It was so simple I wondered if I was really finished that fast!! (about 45 min, including jacking up and removing each wheel to get at the bleed screws, and discovering that I don't have a rotor index screw on the left rear. I can't believe both me and my indy mechanic missed that in the past. Dealer will provide as its under warranty). Pain to get that wheel lined up again tho.
Replacing the fuel filter was like it has been described here previously. Those 17 and 19mm bolts are a bear, even with PB Blaster. Especially the inboard one, hard to get a good angle on it. Not too bad though. About 10 oz of gas dripped from the lines and filter. I did this in my garage, but wisely turned off the pilot light for the water heater!!!!
I could not believe the amount of junk in the old cabin air filter. I mean just plain nasty. Black, with all sorts of amoebas and stuff growing in it. It will be interesting to see how the AC does (its like 92 out there right now..ugh) with the new filter.
Now all that remains is a flush of the coolant and I think thats the main things for the 60k. That will have to wait till the weekend though.
Time for a shower and later a cold beer. Have fun folks!!
