This morning I was on my way to the dealer to have a button fixed on my steering wheel for the sound system. I stopped to eat breakfast and parked my new 2003 Vector 9-3 (4000 miles on it) facing in on a slight curve. When I came out of the restaurant and tried to start the car, the key would not turn at all. I tried the other key, it would not turn at all. The steering wheel would not move, the gear shift would not move (automatic transmission).

So I called the Saab Dealer and they told me to call Saab roadside assistance.

Roadside assistance dispatched a tow truck (a flat bed). When the guy got there, he wanted me to sign a release because with out the wheels moving, he would have to scrape the front of the car he said, as he loaded it on a flat bed, because of the sports chasis and the lower front end. Well that set off alarms and I called the Dealer again.

They were surprised that Saab sent out a flatbed, not a regular tow truck.

So the one guy left and I called the tow company that the dealer used. Their service guy came, looked at the car, and said he'd manually disconnect the transmission so the wheels would move. He did so and then put the car up on wheels and towed me to the dealer.

After waiting for a while, they found the problem. A bag ignition switch. So they ordered it over night, it should be here tomorrow, and they will let me know when the car is ready.

At first, they didn't have any loaners but when they realized that they would have to get a part, they gave me a BIG LEXUS TANK SUV. I certainly appreciate the Saab 9-3 more now that I've driven the "tank" for a while.

I called Saab Roadside Assistance back to tell them that they sent the wrong kind of toe truck for a Vector...it even states in the Owner's Manual that there is a danger of damage to the front end of the Vector Sport's Chasis if you use a flat bed loader/tow truck.

I'm surprised they didn't know this.

Of course, with only 4,000 miles on the car, all of this should be under warranty.
