Ok, so to summarize what I take to be the general consensus on suspension upgrades on this board, Konis and H&R or Eibach springs yield the best results for std. 9-3's, but you need specially valved Konis and even more obscure springs on a Viggen. Long term, either are "better" than an Eibach Pro-Kit, mainly on longevity and adjustability grounds.
Based on other sources, I hear that Konis, which everyone agrees are far stiffer than most, even on their softest settings, will tend to "lift" conservative springs like Eibachs. For this reason, many Koni-heads will use a more aggressive spring.
I also know that Viggen folks will seek the specially valved Konis to optimize their interaction with their favorite springs (stock and Abbott appear to be favorites?!).
I have also heard increasingly good things about the Eibach Pro-Kit, mostly for how seamlessly the components work together. Others, citing perception or reputation rather than experience, have stated that the shocks included with the ProKit are no good over time.
SO..... my questions are:
1) Does everyone agree that the ProKit, out of the box, is more likely to work better than a set of off the shelf Konis mated to aftermarket springs?
1a) Has anyone been driven clinically mad (or worse, broke) trying to either match springs with Konis or valve Konis to work well?
2) Does anyone actually have experience with the ProKit shocks failing, or is it mostly just an "Eibach's game is springs, not shocks" attitude?
3) What about Bilsteins for the 9-3? I understand the c900 crowd loves those things.
4) Anyone have experience with coilovers on a 9-3? I realize this is likley not wise given the limitations of the rear suspension and the oeverall character of the car, but still...
