Bumps in the road when going around curves

This is going to be pretty hard for me to explain, but I'll do my best. In this area (metro-NYC), there are lots of curvey highways, and lots of potholes and other imperfections in the road. When I'm going around a fairly sharp curve (for highway standards) and hit a bump -- like a slightly sunken manhole cover for instance -- it feels as if the car (an '01 9-3 SE) takes some time to become stable again.
Last night I was on the cross county parkway in Yonkers, and right in the middle of a hard bank to the right in the highway there is a significant dip in the road. When the car came out of the dip, I really felt as if I was about to lose it. The wheel was pulling and the car felt as if it was "rocking". I was only doing about 55-60 MPH too, so speed isn't an issue.
Up until a few months ago I had a Jetta that used to handle that particular curve fine. Is this behavior something that I should expect from the Saab, or is it something I should have looked at?
Unless you have experienced a very similar situation, it's probably impossible to understand what I'm talking about - but it was scary.
