Took the Viggen in for oil change, techII programming and to get them to check the manual shifter as it's tough to get into first and sticks in 3rd sometimes. Of course they couldn't reproduce the problem - I may just pay an indy mechanic to do the MTF0063 drain-fill-drain-fill routine to see if that helps. Something has to be seriously broken for the dealer to fix it I think, and as others have mentioned if you show them a printout of the TSB they are completely clueless - man I wish my dealer was into performance tuning - they could sure make some money off of me in a hurry.
Is doing the MTF0063 procedure something that I can easily do myself?
On the bright side I was given a 9-3SS Linear with auto as a loaner. This was my first chance to drive one of these buggers and I must say I was impressed. Even with the base, non-sport suspension and smaller tires the car handles pretty well, and I imagine that the full-bore Vector is really a hoot to drive. The rear-wheel steer assist is very cool - you can really feel it kicking in when taking a sharp curve at speed (don't tell the dealer). As for power with 175HP I was not really disappointed. Obviously it doesn't compete with the Viggen in 3rd gear but does seem comparable in 1st and 2nd with the Viggen's torque-limited power in those same gears. The car is MUCH better at putting the power to the road with the only real lag occurring from a dead standstill. I'll have to try a Vector with 6-speed at some point. As others have said the audio system in that car is the pits - really a serious mark against an otherwise nice car. There's plenty of cars that leave the lot in the mid-20's with really decent sound systems, but then again you do still get a lot for your money with the Linear.
