Problem is the dealer and tire guys... While most enthusiasts probably monitor tire pressure monthly, I ALWAYS find that after a dealer visit and rotate/rebalance or a new set of tires that the dealer and tire joints set PSI at 32 or so. One time I got my Audi Allroad back and the dealer had set it all 4 to 28 PSI when I had them at 38 - WTF? I guess that was the benefit of the "Free" service - no thanks.
That said tire pressure is the first thing I check when I get home after a service. Worse part is that I always specify a specific PSI yet it hardly ever happens.
FWIW - I run 40 front and 38 back myself or sometimes 39 on all four - depends. Knock on wood, but under my management of 4 different cars with 17 inch rims I have bent one rim and it was unavoidable - this includes 1.5 years with my 2000 Viggen with OEM wheels.
