One guy on the board tried 235/40s and had some luck but that was on a Viggen.
Keep in mind that bigger isn't always better (for tires, at least) in that you can go TOO big which can result in rubbing, serious tramlining and don't forget that unsprung weight increases as you go to bigger tires.
My $.02 would be to put on a serious performance tire (e.g. S-03, Ecsta Supra, P-Zero, etc...) in a 225/45-17 configuration and get the SAS rear sway bar and one of the steering clamp braces (either KIC or Abbott).
