Saab provided a nominal gap with a +/- spec like 1.0mm, +.1, -.2 originally. But now the spec for new vehicles with this engine is .037. It was silly to spec the gap not at the lower range when the gap will be eroding open. Some things that Saab has done are quite silly and some were very stupid.
Thanks for reporting the improvement to the BB. Some folks are quite convinced that only new plugs will work well. You might get some new plugs and install at .037' and see if there is a difference that you can notice, and report if there is a noticable improvement or not.
Some things interact too. Plug conditions might be more critical when injector spay patterns are less than great from injector deposits. Some folks trust there senses about how things are running and thats a god skill to have. When these engines are running right things feel good!
