My car has a standard 6-gear transmission (I do not like automatics).
I just got back from the dealer where I dropped off my Arc -- they will take a look Monday.
They told me that it is likely the computer that regulates the idle being off a little. They said that the computer has a set of values for temp., humidity, etc., that helps decide how to regulate the flow of gas to the engine. Apparently, there is a software patch that extends this set of values, so the car knows what to do at different conditions. They also said that they had 2 other customers with similar trouble, and once they gave them the software upgrade, this took care of the problem.
The truth is that this generation of Saabs has so much intelligence built in (computers that modulate & correct everything) that it's almost too good -- too complex, and it's bound to hickup.
Assuming that my safety concerns are alleviated (fearing that I might stall in traffic is not good), then I am happy to adopt a more lenient attitude toward electronic malfunctions. Saab is charting new territory with their fancy computing.
I will post a follow-up when I get the carback from the dealer next week.
