Did you REALLY open it up and remove the circuit board? Get all the water out, dry it out for a day or two and install fresh batteries. Other people have brought waterlogged remotes back to life.
It's a good thing you had a spare... Way too many people have found out (the hard way) that if you lock the car with the remote and it gets lost or damaged, you're well and truly SCREWED. The alarm ECU is permanently "immobilized" and there is no way to fix it other than to replace it... This costs over $1000 for parts and labor! Ouch.
Always have a spare remote... Pick one up on eBay for $25 or so.
