I use BG 44K every 20k

I don't want to run a cleaner every 3k-8k mi, so I use 44K instead. And I've never had a pinging problem in my 9³ (but I've only got 45k mi on it). Another member here (Drew) was told he had to replace a fouled injector for $450. He ran a can of 44K in his tank, & reported a noticeable improvement by the time he was only 1/2-way thru. It's got to be moving thru your cylinders to do any cleaning in there. I hope, with only 20mi so far, you haven't used more than a gallon! :-)
My '90 N/A 900 has the same occassional pinging you're experiencing (& yes, I use 44K every 20k in it too), but only when three things come together:
1) during summer
2) in city traffic
3) using off-brand gasoline (The gas can be the correct octane, but the cheapest correct octane (which means off-brand) will ping on me.)
If any one of these conditions is missing, I don't get the ping.
