Quick story. I put Dunlop Sport A2's on my 2002 9-3SE after the Pirellis bit it. Put about 5400 miles on the Dunlops. Then, Car was rear ended and then tapped in the front. Total damage was about $7000.00.
After car was fixed, took the car to tire store to get the first rotation after 6000 miles. Pick up the car....drives like garbage. Took it back....they rebalanced....drove even worse...big shake in steering wheel. Took it back for a third time..[couple hours later] they looked "real" carefully and said that the tires that got rotated from the back to the front both had a flat-spot. They said that Dunlop didn't cover flat spots and that the only way they are there is that there is something wrong with my car. The guy nonetheless put two new front tires on and charged me a pro-rated $20. On the receipt they wrote that any future flat spots will not be warranted because if they are there it is the car's fault, not the tires. I stilll ge t a small vibration/wobble at highway speeds even on smooth pavement. It is fatiguing on a 2hour drive I took the car back to the bodyshop and they sent it out to their alignment place. They couldn't find anything wrong with the alignment but just to be thorough they drove my car over to the SAAB dealer so that they could also drive/look at it. They said that all aspects of the alignment were perfrectly in spec and had the print out to prove it. The body shop, and saab dealer are telling me now that those Dunlops are GARBAGE!!! I think I agree. I originally wanted the Conti Contact Extreme but the guy at the tire store insisted on saving me money and put me on the Dunlops because "Consumer reports rated them highly and no customers have had any complaints.
Bottom line:
I am going to the tire guy on Saturday and demanding new tires. The only thing on my conscience is that the first rotation corresponds aROUND to the time after the accident. So I don't know if one has anything to do with the other. SAAB and bodyshop say the car is STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW. Vibration is due to those "truck tires" you put on. My Saab mechanic swears by the Michelin Pilots. He said that they have had good luck with the continentals but bar none...the michelins are the smoothest, quietest tire.
ANY SUGGESTIONS???
My great car feels lousy on the highway ever since the accident.
Please...any advice?
Are new tires the answer even after putting only 6000 miles on the Dunlops? Will new tires make the vibration go away? Are they an UNROTATABLE tire?
Thanks,
Ben.,
