In my case the service technician determined it was a small leak in tehe turbo gasket that would allow a drop or two of oil to seep through once the engine was turned off. On the next start, this little bit of oil would be burned off and come out the exhaust as a puff of white smoke. Since the car was still under warranty, they replaced the turbo (the gasket is not a separate part aparently). I got the impression that the leak was small enough that you could live with the problem as long as you didn't mind the puff of smoke and you were not losing oil at any noticeable rate. Like you, I did not notice any lack of performance. If your car has any warranty left, or you have certified Saab (used with an extended dealer warranty), I would have them check this.
