They all fail in time, and the T7 black DI's are more of a risk.
You can collect on a warranty and call a tow truck. Or be x warranty and call the two truck and pay a lot more for the DI, plus labor.
Many of us elect to be control our own destiny and have a spare DI. Yes there are safety issues. If you loose power, go neutral to maintain speed and punch the 4 way hazzard lamps ASAP then get off the road. Then you choose to wait for a tow to the dealer, that will not open till Monday AM, or spend a few minutes installing your spare.
A spare DI is simply an insurance issue.
You are being a bit unrealistic. The DIs operate in heat and vibration. They will not last forever.
Plugs? Just use the right ones. If someone installs bogus plugs then they have no one to blame for the consequences. The DI will work with any resistor plug that is gapped right. But that plug may foul and mis-fire. And the DI may limit your boost or allow some engine knock. But the DI does not care about that, it will not fail. Mis-firing can and does destroy the catalytic converter that gets that unburnt fuel.
This board does not exagerate anything. We are here to solve problems and exchange information. If nothing every failed or wore out, we would not have much to talk about. Many drive the issue of the DI's to help others see the merit of having a spare DI. -drive your own road-
And check your serp belt upper pully.
