In a couple of previous posts, I’ve mentioned in passing that I bought a Viggen. The car is a lightning blue 2000 5-door with 77,000 miles. It’s got quite a few stone chips on the hood, but is otherwise in great condition. For those who are following the ongoing “good price for a Viggen” discussion, I paid $14,450.

I’m still pretty excited about joining the distinguished and exclusive fellowship of Viggen drivers, so I want to acknowledge publicly several people who helped me find the right car:

Jim Thompson of Saabway.com in Marrietta, GA (a relatively new Saabnet sponsor) sold me the car. He was conservative in describing the car’s condition, helpful with information about the car’s history, and straightforward when negotiating price.

Mike from Swedish Performance Group, an independent Saab shop also in Marrietta, did an extremely thorough pre-purchase inspection. I think he charged me for an hour of labor, but he must have spent more time than that. When talking with him about the car, I could tell he loved his work. He said he’d buy the car if he could, so I was confident about investing in an airplane ticket and flying to Georgia.

Jeff in the service department at Houston’s Performance Saab was very helpful in finding out the service history of several cars.

Last but not least, Misplaced Yankee, temporary Texan and frequent Saabnet contributor, pointed me to the Saabway ad, along with several others. He is quite knowledgeable and was very generous with his time in discussing at great length the merits of several cars. Yank, be sure to call me when you’re in Houston so I can buy you lunch.

In honor of all these helpful people, I’m going to drive home from work this evening at a high rate of speed!

Best regards to all,

Dave
