My 1999 9-3 SE began losing coolant at a similar rate about a month ago. Mechanic just phoned me - he used the dreaded HEAD GASKET FAILURE phrase. I am aware that this is not an unheard of problem; I was hoping for a clamp/thermostat housing leak, but my attempts at diagnosing the problem showed all clamps tight, no leak arount t-housing, no visible leak around heater control valve/heater core, no oil in coolant, no coolant in oil, no noticeable increase in water vapor emissions, although with the temps dropping rapidly in Minnesota this time of year it is hard to gauge that last one accurately - not surprised he came to that conclusion either. Any thoughts, caveats, advice from others who have experienced this (head gasket) failure would be most appreciated.
