If you are playing a CD, the antenna goes down, and your amp will shut off.
The problem with the remote on is not the head unit not sending it, but the signal being too weak for the amp. The stock Saab amp should work fine with the signal...so...
(1) check that there is a signal on the amp-on wire. If no, there's a problem with the head unit not sending the signal. I can't think of any other place to pull the signal to retain full functionality (radio can be played with car turned off).
(2) If (1) is ok, check whether there is any signal from the outputs to the speakers. If yes, the speakers are either not connected or broken. See Richard's site (below) for info on opening the doors and accessing those speakers.
(3) If no output to speakers, check signal inputs to amp. Any audio signal going in? If yes, sounds like the amp is broken. Does it get hot when you run the radio for a while? If no, definitely broken.
(4) If no audio signal to amp, check audio signal at the 8-pin DIN output of the head unit. If it's good, you've got a problem in the wiring. If not, head unit is bad. Consider tapping into the dash speaker wiring for inputs to your amp, although quality won't be as good.
