Other symptoms of DI cassette failure

At the time the CEL came on, there were no noticeable symptoms. The car still seemed to be running OK. Gas mileage may have dropped a little, but that could have been attributed to more city vs. highway driving.
Later on once I found out that it was the DI cassette that was starting to fail, I remembered that a couple of weeks before that I had smelled a strong smell coming through the dash vents one day that lasted for a mile or two. It smelled like a fried computer board, i.e., the strong smell of burnt electronic circuitry. At the time it happened, I did not connect it with the DI cassette because I did not notice any problems with how the car ran. This is a common symptom, though, of DI cassette failure, so in my case it may have been part of the circuitry was damaged, which finally got bad enough that it caused the CEL to come on. Apparently mine was failing a little more slowly over time. For other people it fails all at once, leaving you stuck.
