Odd noise in engine above 2300rpm Posted by Pete [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I have a 1999 9-3 with 53k miles on it (I bought it earlier this year at 44k) and I've started hearing a strange buzzing sound from the passenger side of the engine at certain rpms.
It's not present at all while idling or very light throttle, but as soon as it climbs over 2300rpm (and this is consistant-- it's always at this same spot) it sounds like something starts buzzing near the serpentine belt. I haven't noticed any other problems, but I have no idea what could be causing this.
I've been considering taking the car in for its 60,000 mile service a few thousand miles early to have the serp belt and pulley replaced. I'm no master mechanic, but is there any way that I can begin to really diagnose this noise? What should I be looking at under there? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
