What I'd do

IMO, the worst thing you can do is run your 9³ on dino oil. I switched my '90 900 over at 120k miles & had no problems (& I think Dick's had similar experience on numerous vehicles), but I realize that different folks have had different results.
I've recently (within the past year) learned about a product called Auto-Rx, & I'm convinced that it's the way to go for switching any car over from dino to syn. If you're at all concerned about leaks, then this stuff should be your first step in switching over. I'll be running it in both my 900 (165k now) & my '99 9³ (nearly 50k) over the next few months.
If you decide to stay with dino, consider using a diesel-style oil like Saab's 5W-30, Mobil's Delvac 1300 Super 15W-40, or something else comparable. These oils are built to withstand turbocharged diesel engines, so they hold up much better than regular gasoline engine oils (but not as long as premium syn oils will).
I know Dick prefers lighter oils, but if I lived in your area I'd run nothing but Mobil 1 15W-50, Delvac 1 5W-40, or something similar from Amsoil. Any of these choices will easily last for 10k mile intervals in your engine.
