5) Unplug wires to headunit....you are now ready to install.
6) Connect FM Antenna connection (previously on radio) to FM Modulator (marked 'To FM Antenna' on FM Modulator).
- You will need an adaptor to make this connection. I got mine from Wal-Mart. It is a 'Schosche' brand, model # "DIA". The box is marked FORD/NISSAN/VOLSWAGEN Antenna Adapter.
7) Connect FM Modulator to Headunit (where the antenna plug USED to go).
- You will need an adaptor to make this connection. I got mine from Best-Buy. I don't know the model #, but the kid that sold it to me said the box was marked Volkswagen.
8) Put the headunit back in it's slot.
9) Now power connections....if you want to do it like I did, use the cigarette lighter wires. Use splices or taps or whatever your preferred method is. I used 18-22 wire gauge splices from Radio Shack. On my car, Brown/Red wire is 12V power, and black is the ground. You'll probably have to cut the as-supplied power connectors on the FM Modulator to make the connections. This is no loss, just make sure your connections are insulated (no bare wire exposed).
10) Run the 6V power and Stereo Input from the FM Modulator out of the dash as you please. I ran mine from underneath the coin tray, next to the cigarette lighter. You could also run them out of a blank button if you like.
11) Install the XM antenna either on your roof or on the rear parcel shelf. XM recommends on the roof, but mine is on the parcel shelf. So far I get a clear signal though the glass, AND inside the garage with the door shut.
12) Run the XM antenna wire through the glovebox area, and out the same location as the stereo input and 6V power are going. I consealed my antenna wire by putting it under the lip of the rubber weather seal, and under the plastic door sill panel (marked SAAB). The only place you can see it is between the rear and front passenger seats. So you can see I didn't bother ripping the interior apart to locate the wire (a big plus in my book).
13) You are done. Re-assemble the glovebox and passenger-side kickpanel, unless you like the ghetto, my car just got broken into look.
Other notes....
I used wire ties (small and medium sized ones) to attach the FM Modulator unit to where the upgraded sound system amp would go (I think...?).
I am going to mount the Roady to a SAAB cell phone mount. There really isn't a great place to mount the unit using the equipment supplied.
I hope this helps any other potential XM'ers. I had plenty of questions before I started....and then said, screw it I'm doing it myself. I didn't want the Best Buy guys messing with my ride, yo!
