Since you also asked abouth the cloth/leather combination seats, I'll bet what you're looking at is a 2002 SE without the "premium package". In 2002 Saab dropped the base entirely and offered the SE with or without this package. Look in the "Older Models Info" from the home page and read all about it, but the 2002 SE without the package had Mmanual climate controls and leather/textile-combo seats.
Also interesting about the 2002: the "turbo" logo is embossed into the seats to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Saab turbocharging.
I have a black 2002 SE without premium package and I love it. I only miss the full-leather seating sometimes, but I'd hate the ACC.
One last note: if you read some more posts about the manual control "knobs-problem" you'll see that the problem is almost always the '99 year model (one of a few of issues with the first 9-3). Mine haven't given me any problems at all.
