Figured you all may be able to help me with this as I know some of you have purchased your cars that you have leased.

We have a car that we leased for 3 years that a friend of ours wants to buy at the end of our lease. We sure as hell don't want it (I have already warned her about long term Audi reliability, but its falling on deaf ears). In the lease agreement there is an end-of-lease purchase price. I estimate this price is far more than the car will be worth. The car will be well under mileage, so that is not an issue.

Is this price negotiable with the lease company (Chase Manhattan)? Can someone other than the lessor buy it at time we turn it in? I assume if we dont purchase it it will be auctioned off for many thousands less and picked up buy a licensed broker/dealer, as these auctions are only open to folks with a dealer's license? What can be done for the buyer to get the best possible price?
