I have had my 9-3SS for almost 1 year now, and for the most part have been very happy. I have had some lingering problems with rattles, squeeky brakes, and the stalling issue (3x). After Friday's experience, I can honestly say that despite these small issues, I would recommend the car to anyone who asks. I was driving to work in the Left Lane on I-95 in Providence, and as I neared the "S-Curves" in Pawtucket, I noticed a trail of smoke coming from the large tanker truck next to me. Realizing a moment later it was smoke from the truck's locked brakes, and the truck was veering left towards my car, I was faced with 2 choices, (1) hit the gas hard, speed past the truck, which by this time would have been disastrous, I would have been trapped between the concrete barrier and the front of the truck, or hit the cars in front of me who were all slowing down. (I think the truck must have hit at least one of these cars at the end of the accident (2)hit the brakes and veer around the back of the truck, possibly getting caught between the rear of the truck and the concrete barrier. I slammed the brakes on, and thankfully missed the rear of the truck which was now fully into the left lane. The next step was to avoid getting slammed by the cars behind me, who probably could not see this happen since it's a left curve. I went from the brake to the gas immediately and as I looked back, there were 2 cars behind me who probably would have hit me if I did not get back up to speed quickly.
My point: This car has EXCELLENT brakes, EXCELLENT visibility, especially from the passenger side's blind spot mirror, (as I saw that I was able to veer into the center lane and not hit anyone), and above average acceleration, allowing me to avoid getting hit. (I was expecting some lag, but there really was none, maybe becuase it was a cold day?).
Anyway, sorry if this was long winded, but I thought this car deserved a lot of my praise for saving me from either (or both), an expensive repair bill, and an extended hospital stay.
I'm willing to trade a rattle or 2 for this type of performance any day of the week.
