I average 2mpg better on my 9000 with a K&N filter. I can say that with confidence because I did calcs on several tanks of gas manually and that correlated with the computer calculation with the filter on and with the stock filter.
Also, a quote from the website:
"No more filter change is necessary. 40% more air is passing through thoses filters. The filter capacity is more than 97.5%. The great car manufacturers demands only a filtration of 96%. JR Filters grant lifetime guaranty to the first owner. They are washable, that means they are always reuseable. The power will be increased and the fuel consumption reduced, at the same way of driving.
Tests in the UK with heavy duty trucks proved, that all trucks equipped whit those kind of filter, had between 7.5 and 8% less consumption. "
I don't think we should sue Autozone. K&N and JR both claim the same and I validate the K&N filter usage in my 9000 T by experience.
To me it makes sense, more airflow with the same amount of fuel with provide more combustion and consequently more power, but if you drove like you did with the stock filter in terms of driving habits, you would require less fuel for the same driving style.
