'99 9-3 IAC Cleaning
I started to notice a little surge in idle, yet eversoslightly so I went ahead and took a look at the IAC last night. After 70K miles, upon inspection it had some black deposits and some build up in there. The Carb Cleaner that was suggested worked well to get that junk out. Followed Dean's post on the NG900 board. Put a little oil as suggested on the moving parts when finished.
Upon start up this morning the car took a good minute or two settle into its' idle, but the rest of the trip where I had lots of idle time proved rock solid idle speed.
The car is a '99 9-3SE. The IAC is left of the Throttle Body(TB). Two hoses are attached to it by hose clamps and a wiring harness. The Harness comes off by pushing up on the spring released metal clamp found on the underside of the harness. Once the 2 hose clamps are loosened and hoses pulled off, the IAC slips out of it's rubber collar. From there you can see into the two ports. As Dean had pointed out earlier, I found the down side is in worse shape. Using the carb cleaner with the extension straw, I was able to get in there and clean it good. I carefully used a screwdriver to work the Using a glass baby jar I collected the solvent coming out. It looked brown and had heavier black deposits sitting on the bottom. Once I oiled things, I put it back together.
