I have a white 5 door base 1999 9-3 (T-5)185HP manufactured per the seatbelt label in May of 1998 and purchased in December 98. I actually went in looking for close outs on 98-900s but those were all gone. Guess I lucked out. I love my SAAB more today than the day I bought it. How many car owners can say that five years into a relationship?
I did not realize the 00-02 T-7s had a larger air box in additional to the trionic upgrade. I guess I could measure my airbox and call AMSOIL and ask for specs on the wire mesh & Foam filter which they list a suitable for the 99 9-3.
I am a little uptight about playing with air filters because I want to drive my SAAB for another 5 years and so I worry about boosting HP by a few percentages points with a JR sport filter dirt only to allow more grit and dirt from the road into my engine.
The suspension mods, 17 ' rims, sway bar and steering rack and clamp were a no brainer, but I start playing with the engine bay, I start to wonder if I know what I am doing. I think the next mod will be the Sylvania Xtravision headlight bulbs from England. Talieferro is just down the road from me and I thought about the chipping the engine and then I thought about my transmission and decided against it as the car already has more than enough acceleration and top end speed. Anyway, thanks for the warning on the oil filter size issue.
